Malaysia Ultra-Trail Taiping Weather: Thunderstorms 12–13 Sep 2026

To every Malaysia Ultra-Trail runner taking on Taiping this weekend: race strong, but race wisely. MET Malaysia’s official Taiping forecast currently lists thunderstorms for both Saturday 12 September and Sunday 13 September, with morning thunderstorms and temperatures around 24–34°C. Conditions can change quickly around Taiping and the Maxwell Hill area, so please make weather checks part of your race preparation.

What MET Malaysia currently forecasts

For Taiping, MET Malaysia currently lists thunderstorms on Saturday 12 September and Sunday 13 September, with morning thunderstorms and a daily temperature range of about 24°C to 34°C. The wider Perak state forecast also indicates thunderstorm potential during the weekend. Weather forecasts are not guarantees, especially for convective thunderstorms, so runners should recheck close to their actual start time.

Why the timing matters on race morning

The official schedule places the MY100 start at 03:00, MY50 at 05:00, MY25 at 07:00 and MY13 at 08:00 on Saturday. At this 06:00 update, the two longer races are under way while the MY25 and MY13 starts are still ahead. MY100 continues into Sunday, with the final cut-off at 11:00. The forecast period therefore overlaps the live race window directly.

A sensible race-morning checklist

  • Check MET Malaysia or the myCuaca app again immediately before leaving for the start, and follow any race-director or organiser update that supersedes earlier information.
  • Do not leave mandatory weather gear behind because the sky looks clear at the start. The organiser specifically requires mandatory gear throughout the race and lists a waterproof hooded jacket and a working, fully charged mobile phone among the safety equipment.
  • Expect wet surfaces to reduce grip. Protect essential electronics and dry items from water, manage pace conservatively where footing deteriorates, and give yourself more margin on technical sections.
  • If lightning, very heavy rain or strong winds develop, follow marshals and race officials promptly. The organiser’s rules require runners to obey event staff and allow the race to be suspended, postponed or cancelled if necessary for safety.
