The Map on the Wall Knows Where the Rain Goes
墙上的太平地图，知道雨往哪里走
At Sojourn, there is a hand-drawn map of Taiping on the wall. A visitor may stop before it for directions. The map offers streets, familiar landmarks and the promise that a short walk will remain short. Taiping’s weather has never signed that agreement.
晓客栈墙上挂着一幅手绘太平地图。旅人站在前面找路，地图画出街道与地标，仿佛走十分钟就是十分钟。太平的天气从来没签过这份保证。
The pleasure of an old town is not that everything is labelled. It is that a turn can bring you to a five-foot way, a coffee shop, a row of shutters or a building you have walked past twice without noticing. The map tells you where to go; the pavement tells you what kind of town this is.
老城有趣，不是因为每件东西都有标签。转个弯，可能是五脚基、咖啡店、一排木门，或一栋你走过两次才注意到的建筑。地图教你认路，街道才教你认识太平。
A drawn map also has an advantage over a glowing blue dot: it does not pretend to know how quickly you walk, how long you linger over breakfast, or whether a sudden shower will make you change plans. The old town is small enough to explore patiently and complicated enough to reward it.
手绘地图比手机上的蓝点多一个好处：它不会假装知道你走多快、早餐吃多久，或一场骤雨何时让你改变主意。太平老城不大，却值得慢慢看。
