For guests staying in Taiping over the National Day weekend, two verified Perak events are worth knowing about: the state Merdeka-eve celebration in Ipoh tonight, and Festival Kraf Perak in Teluk Intan through 6 September.
Tonight: Perak State Merdeka Eve Celebration
Tourism Perak lists the Sambutan Ambang Merdeka x Festival Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah 2026 at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah, Meru, Ipoh. The event runs from 8:00 PM on 30 August until 1:00 AM on 31 August and admission is free.

This week: Festival Kraf Perak 2026
Festival Kraf Perak 2026 is running at Dataran Menara Condong in Teluk Intan from 29 August to 6 September, daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The official Tourism Perak listing describes local craft products, activities and craft demonstrations, with free admission.

Planning from Taiping
If you prefer to keep the weekend slow, Taiping itself remains the easier base: the old town, Lake Gardens, food streets and heritage buildings are all close to Sojourn. The two events above are better treated as optional Perak side trips rather than reasons to rush through Taiping.
