Some days make an old guesthouse feel like a very small version of the country.
有些日子，会让一间老旅宿像是这个国家的小小缩影。
On Malaysia Day, the thing we notice is not a flag or a programme. It is the ordinary mix inside the house: English, Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese on our signs and pages, then other accents and languages arriving with travellers at the same front door. Nobody plans that mixture. It simply happens. Perhaps that is the nicest part — an old Taiping shophouse, briefly shared by people whose journeys began somewhere else.
